Last week I was giving the honor of participating in PeaceWeek Global Telesummit, the largest virtual peace summit ever created . Which featured 100 speakers and more than 22,000 listeners from 152 countries around the world. The telesummit was hosted and organized by the Shift Network and the Peace Alliance. This year’s leaders offered a profound insights for how we can create peace in our own lives, your family, your community and our world. For those who missed it, all of the panels were recorded, including mines.
The panel I was featured on was titled “Youth PROMISE Act: Bringing violence prevention and hope to our youth”, my fellow panelists were as followed;
- Committee on the Judiciary, where he is the Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Crime
- Terrorism and Homeland Security
- member of the Subcommittee on the Constitution
- Committee on Education and the Workforce
Michael Skolnik is the Political Director to hip-hop pioneer, Russell Simmons and the co-President of GlobalGrind.com, an online destination founded by Mr. Simmons. As his role as Political Director, Michael oversees Mr. Simmons’ entire social justice, political and semi-political activities. The focus of their work together is based around three core themes: education, poverty and ignorance. GlobalGrind is Hip-Pop, the “Hip” side of popular culture. Prior to his work for Mr. Simmons, Michael spent over a decade as an award winning film director and producer. He is a graduate of the UCLA School Of Film, Theater and Television.
Matthew Albracht is the Executive Director of The Peace Alliance (www.thepeacealliance.org) an alliance of organizers and advocates throughout the United States taking the work of peacebuilding from the margins of society into the centers of national discourse and policy priorities. They mobilize a network of grassroots teams in hundreds of cities, towns, colleges and high school campuses. He has worked with The Peace Alliance since its founding in 2004 and prior to that worked on various campaigns over the years to help create a more just and sustainable world.
